Grand tours

We plan our tours ourselves. Often together with some friends. The idea and planning phase is part of the experience for us. Others may prefer to join pre-arranged tours by an agency.

Below is a list of the tours we’ve documented on the blog so far. You find all the details in the blog.

Wales (2019)

This was a tour we planned for the Swedish Lotus Car Club. First stop was Assen in the Netherlands to watch Lotus Cup Europe racing and cheer the Swedish drivers.

The second part was Wales in the area around Snowdonia. Including visiting a slate mine, EVO triangle and Angelseye Circuit. On the way back we also visited Silverstone Classic. You’ll find a summary of the tour here: https://europeby.car.blog/2019/08/06/summary-of-pagan-tour-2019/

Italy (2022)

This was another tour we planned for the Lotus Club. Initially planned for 2020, but then came the pandemic. The first part was in the Dolomites and we then continued on to Brescia.

Scotland (2023)

Scotland has been on out bucket list for a long time. We’ve been up to Hadrians wall back in 2016. The idea to actually go there came up during the last breakfast on the Italian tour.

We managed to include Edinburgh, the Highlands and some of the isles on the west coast as well as Loch Ness. You’ll find a summary of the tour here: https://europeby.car.blog/2023/07/22/scotland-2023-summary/

Ireland and Isle of Man (2024)

The idea to go to Ireland came up while waiting for the ferry in Harwich on the way back home from Scotland. One of our friends started to chat with a Dutch couple. They just came back from Ireland in their MG.

It’s a bit tiresome to get to Ireland from Sweden by car. Three days in each direction since live near Stockholm. But once there, it was well worth it. You’ll find a summary of the tour here: https://europeby.car.blog/2024/07/24/ireland-2024-summary/

Italy (2025)

We decided to use Mille Miglia as the theme for the 2025 Grand Tour. It was a road race that ran from 1927 to 1957. In modern days, it’s run as a historic rally. We decided to follow the route from 2019. This took us from Brescia over the Po plains to the Adriatic sea. Across the Apennines to Rome and then back to Brecia via Tuscany.
